Takes Off

Hey there! No, I didn’t fall in – just been a hectic couple of days. We had a garage sale Friday and Saturday here and I must say, did pretty well :) There was one really cool part and one scary part. The cool part was a friend from high school who I haven’t seen in YEARS came up with her hubby and new baby to finally talk in person after 1 ½ years of going back and forth via email! Great to see you Janet! The scary part was yesterday afternoon, some women stopped by, one of which was in a wheelchair. As they are coming to check out what we had in the garage, we hear screeching tires. Erk was mowing in the front yard and facing the direction the accident happened and just takes off running. I run to the end of our driveway and look and see a car sliding on its top. Eric yells to me, “where’s your phone, call 9-1-1” and we were all terrified. By God’s grace, no one was hurt. A woman traveling alone either missed the stop sign or stopped and didn’t look, but she t-boned the man (also traveling alone) and sent his car flipping over. Boy was it a scary sight! By the time Erk got down there (about ¼ mile down the road) the guy had climbed out of his car window and the woman was hysterical crying feeling so bad for what just happened. Very thankful, everyone was alright. In the meantime, the woman in the wheelchair told me her story. About 6 weeks ago she was on the highway moving along and didn’t see that traffic was stopped, she said there were no break lights. She smashed into the back of a car sitting there and was pinned in her vehicle. The most amazing thing? She is 28 weeks pregnant and the baby is perfectly fine. The bad? She broke both femurs and shattered both ankles. Amazing!

Overall, I met some interesting people over the past few days. Lots of folks who are our “neighbors” though they live so far down the road that we’ve never met; a lot of folks with one or two teeth (let’s face it, you get a lot of those at garage sales!); a family where the 8 year old boy was the only one who spoke English and had to translate for his parents; one guy who told me of this dislike for his brother for knocking down his 18 room farmhouse and how his dad was a bootlegger; one dude who knew my last name cause he goes to Erk’s folks church, and on and on.

I’m happy to report my leg is getting better as the days go – still quite sore and I can’t walk quite yet without a limp, but getting there. Bean dog whacked my leg a few times during the garage sale with her tail and about sent me to the moon, although I maintained a smile while people came up to pet her. My hearing isn’t improved YET but I know it’s coming. When I yawn or hiccup, I can hear better, so it’s close :)

Well, Molly is on the floor crawling around and Erk is out with the boys cleaning off the trailer. I have some pics of “Mom’s Day Tea” at Jack’s school the other day I’ll try to post some time later. Have a nice Sunday evening!
