I’m not gonna lie, I’m struggling. I just got off the phone with Jack’s teacher after Jack came home today and said he was in time out… again. What the beak? This along with him telling me last night after supper that he’s cried at school every day they eat lunch (for Jack it’s twice a week he eats at school). WHAT?
I just spent 15 minutes on the phone with his teacher, a super nice lady, but she told me how Jack is seemingly aggressive at school. Today it was that he pushed other kids around for no reason as they were walking to the library. HUH? Then again in class as she read a story, he listened really intently, then all of a sudden turned and pushed another boy in the chest, just because.
Last week’s time out was for running when the teacher had asked him twice to stop and he didn’t. I have an easier time swallowing the running bit (with other boys who also got in trouble – granted he should have listened) than the pushing. Jack is all boy, no doubt, but he’s not outta control. Sure him and Mikie wrestle… what boys don’t? But what is THIS?
The lunchtime issue was also discussed and his teacher told me the aide in his class is in the lunchroom and knows exactly why Jack is upset. I’m thinking “ok, here is to my kids advantage, he’s told me there are bullies that sit across the table and they pick on the boy sitting next to him and it upsets him…” The deal there is the “bullies” are special needs kids. Jack doesn’t understand why they say what they do and ask so many questions. They don’t mean to intimidate him or the other kids, but they do. So we’ll be talking to Jack about that. Poor kid, just doesn’t understand and feels so bad that some other kid is getting picked on. The aide moved Jack the second time they had lunch (which would have been this Monday) and said “he put his lunchbox up to hide behind.” HUH…
As if it’s not hard enough to let go and let your little one get on the bus and ride off, what the beak is up with him being ornery at school? As a mom how can you not take this stuff personally? Sheesh… Anyone have the manual for this one?
